West Side Campaign Against Hunger
The West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH), a church-sponsored program, runs the largest food pantry in New York City out of the lower level of the church. Through a supermarket style food pantry, WSCAH alleviates hunger and creates a culture that promotes self-reliance and works for change. WSCAH changes our perception of hungry people by working in partnership with them, providing food with dignity and empowering customers to find solutions. Currently we are in need of volunteers to help bring in our delivery every Tuesday. The truck from the Food Bank for NYC arrives at 7:30am, and the delivery lasts anywhere from two to four hours. Please call 212-362-3662 if you would like to help.

On a daily basis we have anywhere from 5-15 volunteers, most of whom are also customers at the pantry. We also have volunteers from the community and from neighboring schools and religious congregations. Without the help of our volunteers, we would not be able to serve the large numbers of people we see each day.

Homeless Shelter
In cooperation with Congregation B'nai Jeshurun, we offer shelter to ten currently homeless women five nights each week: Sunday through Thursday. Volunteers are needed to prepare and bring dinner, set up the shelter (7:00 to 9:00 pm) or sleep overnight (9:00 pm to 7:00 am). Please contact Jim Melchiorre at jmelchi567@aol.com if you would like to help us provide a safe, friendly environment for our shelter guests

Homework Help @ SPSA Tutoring Program
We work one-on-one with about 30 children from neighborhood schools, offering help with reading, math and other subjects, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings, 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Please contact Charlene Floyd, charlenefloyd@aol.com if you are interested in helping.

We also offer English language help for parents, many of whom are learning English as a second language. Contact K Karpen, jfkspsa@aol.com if you would like to assist with an English conversation group for adults on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.
